About Equus Too
Ruth Leighton set up 'Equus Too' to introduce people to the benefits of getting to know horses on the ground.
Following the arrival of her children and the discovery her horses were suffering from medical problems, Ruth began to explore ways of training her horses by developing a relationship based on mutual trust and respect.
Ruth noticed her emotions affected her horses' behaviour. If she was frustrated or fearful then her horses would react explosively, whereas if she was calm and peaceful they mirrored her mood.
Ruth also noticed her young children reacted in a similar way. If she was having a stressful day, her children would become demanding, whereas if she was relaxed they reflected her mood.
In 2002 Ruth discovered Epona Equestrian Services, an American organisation specialising in equine facilitated learning. She qualified as an Epona Approved Instructor in 2005.
Ruth invites people to meet her horses to begin a partnership like no other. She knows horses do not lie, do not judge and they do not have an agenda. They are curious creatures with a forgiving nature who are willing to engage in a relationship with a human purely reacting to a stimulus in the present moment.
